Germ Fighter - for immunity support
Germ Fighter is a blend of lemon, clove, eucalyptus, cinnamon, and rosemary - this blend does a really good job of supporting the body when sick by helping open the airways and reduce microbial load. When we are sick or are starting to feel run down we apply this to the bottoms of feet and our collar bones.
Lemon is a great antioxidant support and very cleansing. Clove and cinnamon are rich in compounds that help inhibit the growth of unwanted microbes. Eucalyptus helps clear the sinuses and lungs. Rosemary supports circulation and respiratory function, while also offering antioxidant benefits.
Grapefruit - for armpit B.O
I use grapefruit oil on my armpits, because It's naturally antibacterial (and I love the smell). Postpartum and breast-feeding mom's IYKYK, and I know you know. Ha! Grapefruit oil helps address the root cause of armpit odor, instead of just masking it. BO forms when bacteria breaks down sweat, and grapefruit oil contains natural compounds like limonene that help inhibit the growth of odor-causing bacteria. It also has milld deodorizing properties, and an astringent effect that can reduce moisture.
I apply before applying my deodorant. Fair warning, don't apply right after shaving...it will STING.
Lavender - for relaxation and soothing bug bites
Lavender is one of the most well known oils for its calming and relaxing effects. My husband honestly uses this more than me. He loves to put epsom salt in a bath with a few drops of lavender and then run the water. He also likes to apply to his feet and collar bones before bed for it's ability to support sleep and calm the nervous system.
It is also very soothing for the skin. Both my son and husband are very prone to bug bites, and they use this religiously in the summer for its anti-inflammatory, skin-healing properties, and anti-itch properties.
Peppermint
Peppermint is my go-to oil for headaches. I apply to my temples, back of neck, and forehead. If it's really bad I will follow up with a warm compress. This is also a great addition to the steam inhalation I'm about to mention below. It can also help boost energy. If I'm feeling sluggish and tired and need a mid-day pick me up, instead of reaching for the coffee, I'll add a drop to a glass of water! I've also used this same method with warm water for a sore throat.
Tea Tree - for sinuses and preventing bug bites
Tea tree is very cleansing and has antimicrobial properties. We like to apply this to our collar bones when we are congested, or make a DIY steam inhalation with it. It really helps open the sinuses and reduces microbial load and congestion.
Tea tree can also help deter insects and protect against irritation. Like I mentioned above, my son and husband typically need picaridin based bug-spray, because they eat them alive. But for my daughter and me - we can usually get away with just applying tea tree oil (or tea tree oil based sprays).
*If you are new to oils, make sure you properly dilute or patch test. Always dilute for children.
