Armpit Detox

What causes armpit stank?

Basically when you sweat, the bacteria on your skin eat the sweat and make the odor. It’s not the sweat that smells, but the bacteria that turns into the smell. And warm, sweaty armpits give that bacteria the perfect place to grow.

Anything that increases sweat, changes hormones, shifts gut or skin bacteria, or alters body chemistry can make body odor stronger.

Certainly excessive body odor can have a deeper root cause, and this list is a great place to start if anything needs to be addressed

But I have found sometimes the body just needs a little extra help...

LET'S DETOX YOUR ARMPITS!

What you need:

1 tsp ACV

1-2 tsp water

  • Mix together in a glass bowl (not metal) with a wooden or non metal spoon until it’s the consistency of sour cream

  • Spread on armpits and let sit 10-20 min

  • Wash off in shower or wet cloth

  • Repeat daily, or as need until odor goes away

*Remove immediately if irritation occurs. May cause redness.

This is normal, and should go away on its own.

**Clay’s natural, negatively charged ions interact with metal,

which can neutralize or reduce its ability to attract toxins and impurities

Why does this work?

The Bentonite clay and ACV combo help draw out buildup and rebalance the skin.

Bentonite clay has a natural negative charge and strong absorptive properties, which can bind to oils, residue from deodorants, and impurities sitting on the skin’s surface.

Apple cider vinegar is mildly acidic and can help restore the skin’s natural pH while creating an environment that’s less favorable for odor-causing bacteria.

Together, they can temporarily reduce odor and irritation, especially when transitioning from conventional antiperspirants to natural deodorant.

WHY detox your armpits?

Many conventional deodorants and antiperspirants work by blocking your body’s natural ability to sweat, often using ingredients like aluminum compounds, synthetic fragrance components such as phthalates, parabens, propylene glycol, and antibacterial agents.

Some of these have been flagged for potential links to hormone disruption, skin irritation, and other health concerns.

Because the armpits sit near clusters of lymph nodes and the skin readily absorbs what we apply to it, “detoxing” can be a great tool when switching to natural deodorant, or for general hygiene care - and can support the skin’s natural balance and encourage normal sweat function.
